The Probably Stolen open playtest ran from early August 2026 to September 14, 2026, and closed the day the demo launched. You cannot join it now.

It was bigger than most people assume. Per the developer’s September 9 announcement, 180,000 unique players took part, and 45,000 of them played more than 20 hours. Median playtime was 5 hours 30 minutes; average was 15 hours.

One number is easy to mix up: the August 28 announcement said 100,000 wishlists and 100,000 playtest players. That was a milestone. The 180,000 figure from September 9 is the closing total.

What the feedback changed

Shipped items the developer names: multi-item selection and batch moving, the Toolbox with keys 1-9, right-click sorting, non-16:9 fullscreen UI and tooltip fixes, “the majority of localisation issues”, and a long list of bugs.

Still queued at the time: more unique customers, more starting scenarios, more items and machines, and more store customisation.

The same announcement notes that the Rock Bottom hardcore start and the gambling systems were the most popular choices during the test.

Can I keep my save

Yes. The August 28 announcement says explicitly: “you’ll be able to transfer your saves from the playtest to the demo”.

The September 14 patch also added a Discover button to the load screen, which can see and load saves placed in the folder manually. Steps are in demo download and save transfer.

What happens to playtest saves after the full release has not been stated.

If you are following old videos

The playtest was a separate build, replaced by the demo on September 14, and the demo adds the Water Merchant start, the Toolbox, the upgradable Bottle Printer and the Vacuum Robot upgrade.

Numbers, interfaces and how far you can get in those videos do not necessarily match today. The only reliable check is the version note in the description plus what the in-game UI actually shows.
